NSIP and the US Goat Industry

"How NSIP can benefit the goat industry" is the title of a webinar to be held this Thursday (May 8), at 8 p.m. EST.  The speaker will be Dr. Ken Andries from Kentucky State University.

NSIP is the acronym for the National Sheep Improvement Program. NSIP is a quantitative genetic selection tool for sheep and goat producers.  In 2010, data processing was taken over by Australia's LambPlan/KidPlan.

In the first webinar (May 1), Dr. Robert Banks from the University of New England (in Australia) showed the phenomenal impact LambPlan has had on the Australian sheep industry.

To register for the webinar (and others that will follow) and receive log-in information, send an e-mail to Susan Schoenian at sschoen@umd.edu. The webinar series is being hosted by University of Maryland Extension.

All of the webinars will be recorded, minimally edited, and made available for viewing. Links to webinars will be available at http://www.sheepandgoat.com/recordings.html#NSIP.

For goat producers that participate in buck tests, NSIP is the next logical step in genetic improvement.
