September 25 - Scanning

On September 25th, the goats were scanned using realtime ultrasound. Ribeye and backfat measurements were taken. The data will be posted to this blog once it has been analyzed.

Ultrasound measurements of carcass traits in live animals, when combined with good production records, can serve as a powerful tool in livestock breeding programs. This technology has been used in other species for many years, but is only beginning to be used in meat goats.

Fields of Green
Rainfall in August tallied only 1.1 inches, but recent moisture has created lush pasture conditions. The goats will be weighed for the final time on Friday, September 29. Scrotal measurements will be taken, along with FAMACHA© and body condition scores.
