Chicory

The goats were rotated to a 2-acre field of chicory today. Forage chicory (Cichorium intybus L.) is a perennial plant that produces leafy growth which is higher in nutritive and mineral content (if managed properly) than alfalfa or cool season grasses. It has a relatively deep taproot which provides for tolerance to drought conditions.

Grazing on bioactive forages, such as chicory, has been shown to reduce the negative effects of parasitism.
