May 15 was advertised as the last day to nominate goats for the Western Maryland Pasture-Based Meat Goat Performance Test. As of today, there is room for more goats in the test, and nominations will be accepted after the May 15 deadline.
The test is open to male goats born between December 15, 2006, and March 15, 2007. Health papers issued within 30 days of the test are required. Goats should be delivered to the test site in Keedysville on June 9, where they will remain until October 6.
While on test, the goats will be evaluated for growth performance, parasite resistance, and carcass merit. They will consume a pasture diet, with no supplemental feed. Free choice minerals with Deccox will be available.
