PA Buck Test Sale Sets Records

Pennsylvania’s 28th Performance Tested Ram Lamb and Meat Goat Buck Sale produced record-breaking results. The sale was held on Aug. 5 at the Samuel E. Hayes Jr. Livestock Evaluation Center. This year’s sale averaged $372 per animal for 126 rams, meat goat bucks and invitational ewes and does.

Twenty-three full-blood Boer bucks averaged $561 per head. Starting the sale was the high-indexing buck, a consignment from Victor S. Martin of Ephrata, PA. This top-performing buck sold for $1,100. The high-selling buck in the sale, at $1,200, was a consignment from Curtis Charles of Lancaster, PA. This buck sold to Potomac State College of Keyser, WV.

In the PA Buck Test, the bucks are housed and self-fed a ration consisting of 1,000 lbs. oats, 500 lbs. corn, 250 lbs. linseed meal, 190 lbs. soybean meal, 50 lbs. wheat middlings, and 26 lbs. minerals and vitamins. The test is open to purebred and percentage papered bucks born between September 1 and February 28.
